Reshaping business and the world by leveraging knowledge intangibles

Attached is an article I recently wrote for the AIIAF in Italy entitled IC 2.0: An Open Source Manifesto.

I feel very strongly that the global IC community has made a real mistake by focusing on top-down solutions that endeavor to give complete answers to management teams rather than empowering managers with basic concepts that are applicable to their everyday responsibilities.

The true message of the knowledge era is that knowledge is spread throughout communities. Those at the top don't have all the answers. So experts should not just be providing the answers, we should be empowering people at all levels of organizations to find their own answers.

This was very much on my mind when I created this network. I think we have made great progress in that first six months of our community. But we still have a long way to go. And I hope that the concept of 2.0 will help us discuss and identify ways to move forward.

One other thing. You may have read about changes underway at Ning. They are ending (for the most part) their free services. I have always paid so that the ICKC had its own URL. The cost going forward is not that significant. But the new changes will allow us to sell ads and maybe recruit sponsors. We haven't made any decisions yet about the right model and direction for the ICKC--and I look forward to feedback and ideas on our future course.
