Reshaping business and the world by leveraging knowledge intangibles
Forbes magazine regularly publishes the list of the most innovative companies in the world. If you read this list every year, two facts will readily emerge - firstly most companies in the list never get off it and secondly all of these companies are household names. This implies that all of these companies have continuously innovated their way to success!
As Intellectual Capital practitioners this is an important pattern for us to realize and recognize. My post titled Lifestyle Enhancers throws some more light into this pattern.

Abhijit - I agree with your thinking although Lifestyle makes it sound like you are only talking about consumer product innovation. There are lots of other places where innovation happens and improves the quality of B2B.
What's interesting to me is breaking down the specific elements of IC that fuel an innovation. It don't think there is a standard list except to say that the innovation ecosystem probably has to include all the elements of IC: human, structural, relationship and strategic capital. This would actually make an interesting set of case studies...a thought for another day!
