"Fun question! In the 1990's Packard Bell (the personal computer company) was my lending client. They had bought their brand from the defunct radio company. The name recognition helped them create a new consumer brand very quickly. Of course the…"

Nostalgia - or a Sign of Progress?

What brings intangible value back to a retired brand name?  Is it about the consumer - or is it about the producer? Henry Ford famously said that his customers could have a car painted any color "so long as it's black."  An option was taken off the consumer shelf - yet later found its way back, in turquoise, tail-finned glory! How many instances are there of unfilled consumer wants - that remain unfilled because current production and marketing methods can't fill those wants profitably?  Or,…See More

"Thanks for sharing this Craig - I see that one of our goals as IC advocates is to help people think explicitly about this dynamic including identifying and managing the specific intangibles that are necessary for success. It's fun to imagine…"

Profile Information

What is your interest in IC?
To put a value on the lost IC that litigation and insurance policies aim to replace.
For you, what is the definition of IC?
An asset that is not visible or physically discernable, that 1. provides increased earning power, 2. can be traded or 3. can be licensed.
How does IC relate to your work?
I am an actuary who quantifies economic damages in litigation. The damages may involve the replacement of IC. I also price insurance policies. Insurance policies provide intangible value to their owners beyond the premium paid for them.
