Galen McPherson replied to Mary Adams's discussion 'New ISO Standards: Is Brand the Right Proxy for Intangibles Valuation?'
As I read through this article, I kept hearing the voice of Dr. Deming in the back of my mind, solemnly intoning, "There is no instant pudding." While the notion of brand as proxy/surrogate for intangibles might appeal to some quarters, my…

An Ounce of Retention

While we are familiar with the adage that "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure", one of the more overlooked aspects of knowledge management is the practice of retention, of keeping the hard-won learning within a company.  Tell me what you think about the concept I provide here; I would love to hear from any of you who share a similar interest.See More

Galen McPherson replied to Andrea Gasperini's discussion 'Intangibles value to come out of the systemic crisis'
Karin: Welcome to the discussion. I always enjoy seeing new faces in these threads. Speaking purely from MY personal point of view, allowing for [and expecting] some feedback from others, if I take your meaning correctly, I would propose that this…

Galen McPherson replied to Mary Adams's discussion 'Have we made IC concepts too complicated?'
Mary: I like your list and the segmentation that it provides. I particularly appreciate two categorizations: Front Room - Back Room, and Consultants/Academics - Businesspeople, although the second might be redundant to "Theory -…

So, it sounds as though I have to be within a group that is already using Seneca. I noticed some different roles available [Mitarbeiter and so on]- might it be possible to get an introduction to look into the system in that role?

Sedat: I attempted to register for the Seneca site, but I could not complete it as it rejected my hobbies. Do you have any suggestions for passing that hurdle? My German is sufficient to get through the materials [I have already read several of the…

we need to get together and talk, Debra; I, too, have been working on a similar approach, with the three types of IC, five knowledge operations [making fifteen categories] then rated against seven attributes, for 105 "shoeboxes" for…

feel free - IC [which includes quotable bits] is meant to be shared

Galen McPherson replied to Mary Adams's discussion 'Why is IC Important?'
I agree that IC is important- in fact, I believe that it goes beyond important into the realm of crucial. I believe this because IC is, to me, a meta-science; IC encompasses "all the processes that underlie all the processes" and its…

This emerging concept is exactly the kind of world market that has been outlined in Thomas Friedman's "The World is Flat" series of books: the old "countries as economic agents" was replaced by "companies as economic…

Caught me - you are correct, and I misspoke on that item; contextually, I was thinking"within the organization" and it came out in my typing; thank you

Profile Information

What is your interest in IC?
An avowed Intellectual Capitalist, I am particularly interested in the concept of knowledge systems optimization. My belief is that every organization has a knowledge system, it is simply often not optimized, having merely emerged as operational developments uncovered new knowledge needs. I have developed a model for knowledge operations that I use to frame my assessments and discussions, and I am very interested in hearing other people's thoughts about, and contributions to, this model.
My Blog: I Like How This Guy Thinks This is an area to discuss interesting people I meet along the way, people who have a way of thinking that gives me pause and makes me reconsider my own thoughts and biases; I welcome your reading, and I particularly want your comments on entries

My Website: please come visit my website to find out more about what I do, how I think, and how we can help each other out

My Goal: I am committed to having "a thousand cups of coffee with interesting people". I would invite you to be one of those. Actual coffee in person, virtual coffee using Skype or phone, any manner of connection. And yes, it can be "a thousand glasses of wine" or "a thousand glasses of Scotch" or whatever your particular vice or fancy.

Hi Galen,

Thanks for the connection. Weel that was quite a thread, curious to see the results. But for me and many, I prefer to KM as is and promote the content. Same here with IC and they have started a similae endless discussion on LI about CM. So now they started to question Drucker... :)
Anyway, good to find you here as well and hope to exchange some good ideas on IC.
Regards,
Joris.
