Very interesting Andrea; thanks! Does your research also explore national IC indicators in Europe? Is your work available in English? Alice

Hi Gerald, I believe that the theme of the relationship between IC and Education is really interesting and must have deepened the project "Austrian University Law 2002. Intellectual Capital Reporting for autonomous Academic Institutions"…

I don't know if you folks are interested in creating a Group for IC and Education but I think it could be a very rich discussion (I am not expert in the field but fascinated that organizations in the business of knowledge are actually trapped…

There has been work about valuing public sector intangibles (formally and in less quantitative ways) for many years (without some digging I would estimate at least 15 years). The BC government supporting my attending the World Congress on IC in 2000…

I think an IC newbie can be a thought leader so I see no contradiction in having advanced discussions as well as simple guides. Indeed, one can say that complex discussions may best be built on simple elements.

Hello Gerald. I'd enjoy that. Seeing the sun makes me want to crawl out of my home office and see my shadow. E-mail Alice@4KM.net or Skype amacgillivray when it suits you.

Gerald Morton, EdD commented on Jay Deragon's blog post 'Will Your Social Strategy Change The Game?'
I agree that strategic thinking is required, but would also note that strategy can "emerge" from patterns of small decisions and observations and is not always formally planned. (See Henry Mintzberg, The Rise and Fall of Strategic…

Hello Gerald. Congratulations on your EdD; it takes passion and tenacity to complete a doctorate while working. As you may recall, we worked together briefly a LONG time ago in the Ministry of Education. Actually my choosing to work elsewhere…

Hi John--just returned from Montreal. I like the direction you are going--creating an accountability for IC at the Superintendent level. I should tell you about the some of the Ministry's efforts to create other domains of accountability. Good…

Gerald, I know you've done a great deal of work looking at indicators and that the data associated with the liberation of distance education (in terms of district control) seems to open the door to new ways of conceiving performance indicators.…

Profile Information

What is your interest in IC?
I am the Director of the Information Department of the BC Ministry of Education. The Department has a huge data-base of student information but only a small portion of it was ever used as a basis for action and improvement of the education system. It is my intention over the next two years to transform this formidable array of data into information, knowledge, and action.
